Description
Amalaki (Amla)
Ayurveda considers amla to be the fruit of youth and beauty (not scientifically established). It is known to be the most important rasayana. In Europe it also named “Indian gooseberry” because its apperance is very similar to our gooseberry. The fresh fruit tastes very sour and contains very high amounts of vitamin C. It includes 5 of the 6 tastes; salty is the only one missing. It calms all three doshas, mainly the pitta dosha.
